We waren vorig jaar een keer op vakantie in de buurt van Le Mas Saint-Jean, een gehucht in de bossen tussen Limoges en Châteauroux.
Heerlijk. Prachtig wandelgebied, mooie gevarieerde natuur. Vanuit ons huisje zagen we regelmatig groepjes ruiters langskomen. Jonge kinderen op pony’s, pubermeisjes op middelgrote paarden, dubbele pony’s noemen ze dat geloof ik in Frankrijk. Tijdens een van onze wandelingen kwamen we er meer over te weten.
Paradijs voor paardenprinsessen
Op een wandelpad zagen we een bordje aan een tak hangen met een eekhoorn erop. Wij rondkijken, niets te zien. Even verder, een egel. Uiteindelijk belandden we bij een paardenboerderij waar allerlei kindertjes druk in de weer waren met het rossen en zadelen van pony’s. Het was een manege met meer, voelden we. Toen we eens rond gingen snuffelen, bleek inderdaad dat het een paradijs voor paardenprinsessen was. Je zag overheersend meisjes, van kleine grietjes tot pubers met lange manen.
Hartelijke sfeer
Wat maakt deze paardenboerderij zo bijzonder voor al die meisjes? Ik denk de pony’s. En de organisatie van speurtochten door het bos, die dierenbordjes dus, rondritten in paardenkarren, rij- of menlessen, en de hartelijke leiding. Mijn Frans is niet zo denderend, maar die openheid straalt eraf. Je zag kinderen trots weglopen met certificaten, dan hadden ze kennelijk weer wat geleerd.
Het Rode Paard
De boerderij heet Le Cheval Rouge. Blijkt dat de Ardenner trekpaarden in de volksmond zo genoemd worden. Hier doen de ardenners echter hetzelfde werk als de pony’s: meisjes vervoeren en soms een karretje trekken!
