Hoe dan ook, tussen Barcarès en Cerbère ligt een kilometerslange kustlijn en daar kun je geweldig diepzeeduiken.

Er zijn in deze omgeving meerdere duikscholen te vinden. Of je nou beginner bent of gevorderde, het lukt het je vast wel om bij een van hen een duikcursus op jouw niveau te vinden. Vrienden van mij zijn razend enthousiast over dit gebied. Ze vertelden me over een beschermd natuurgebied onder water, voor de kust bij Banyuls-sur-Mer. Daar schijnt het fantastisch duiken te zijn. Maar ik kan mij voorstellen dat het vijf kilometer verderop ook prima is. Zo groot kan het verschil op zo’n kleine afstand toch niet zijn?
Wrakken
Er schijnen voor de kust ook aardig wat oude wrakken onder de zeespiegel te liggen. Je kunt er via de duikscholen naartoe. Het moet een mooie ervaring zijn, zo’n verlaten verleden met al die stilte eromheen. Staat op mijn lijstje…
Parcours
Zelf heb ik wel al een keer het onderwaterparcours bij Peyrefitte gedaan. Vanaf het strand zwem je dan met een snorkel, een masker en een ingebouwde radioverbinding naar een mooie baai. Het water is er niet erg diep, maar je kunt er prachtige vissen, rotspartijen en waterplanten zien. De begeleiding staat je vanaf de wal te.., eh,.. begeleiden. Deze route is zonder duikcursus te doen. Een aanrader!
